911 Never ForgetThe Iroquois School District is proud to announce that the 9/11 Tribute Museum has chosen to honor the Iroquois Jr./Sr. High School and its teacher, Mrs. Kathleen Haslett, for their 9/11 Day of Service program that took place last fall.

The Iroquois Jr./Sr. High School 9/11 Day of Service was organized by the high school’s English teacher, Kathleen Haslett; however, this program involved the efforts of the entire teaching staff.  Mrs. Haslett is quick to point out this was an entire team effort and that this award was only possible due to the selfless efforts of many. Every Iroquois student in grades 7-12 participated in service-related activities around the Erie Area.

The 9/11 Tribute Museum highlights that, “This award is being given in recognition of teachers who have made an outstanding effort to discuss the events of September 11th with their students and to create projects that helped students understand their contemporary relationship to this history.”

For their efforts, the Iroquois Jr./Sr. High will receive a gift in the amount of $500.00 and a Certificate of Merit. These funds have been generously donated by September 11th family foundations. The names of the awardees, their school, and a brief description of their projects will be distributed through a press release and will be posted on the 9/11 Tribute Museum website as an inspiration to other educators who are seeking ways to bring the events of September 11th into their curriculum.

An awards ceremony and press event will take place on Monday, February 26, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the 9/11 Tribute Center. This date is chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the first attack on the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993, which happened 25 years ago.   Iroquois School District Superintendent Shane Murray is extremely proud of all who made Iroquois’ 9/11 Day of Service a huge success for the students and the Iroquois School District community. Remembering those we lost on that horrific day through service to others is a positive way to overcome the senseless acts of violence that occurred on September 11th, 2001.

More information about this award can be found on the 9/11 Tribute Museum website:  911tributemuseum.org.
