As an extension of our September 11th day of service, a few teachers offered another community service opportunity after school on Wednesday, January 31st.  Twelve students stayed after school to cook a meal of baked ziti, salad, garlic bread, and cakes.  This meal was donated to one of the city’s homeless overflow shelters, which feeds and sleeps about 60 people each night.  These overflow shelters are set up by different churches and community organizations in order to offer more beds during the coldest Erie months.

These students donated their time to prepare and cook the meal, and many IHS teachers donated money to cover the meal’s cost.   The list to sign up filled quickly, and at the end of several hours of cooking and cleaning, one of the kids asked “can we do this again?”
