IES is happy to celebrate Kindness week this week! Each day, students are encouraged to participate in the fun themes and kindness-related activities! Please feel free to have your students join in the fun! A complete schedule for the week can be found at the following link: http://bit.ly/3a1Nnyy

Iroquois Elementary School is committed to providing safe and fun holiday parties this year. As a reminder, we will be hosting a belated winter party on Friday, January 22nd. Students will be provided with a snack, craft, and will be allowed to wear PJs. Valentine’s Day will be celebrated in the classroom on Friday, February 12th. In order to maintain our COVID-19 mitigation strategies please refrain from sending in candy, goodie bags, cards and/or other items. Students will still have the opportunity to celebrate because the teachers and staff at IES will be planning and running the Valentine’s Day parties in a similar fashion to the Halloween and Winter parties! The party activities will allow for students to stay in their classroom and remain socially distanced. Treats, snacks, and activities will be provided by the district. We ask that if you would like to contribute to the parties, haven’t done so already, and are able to, please send in $1 to your child’s classroom to help cover the cost of the Valentine’s Day party. Please send in the money by Friday, February 5th. If you have any questions or concerns reach out to the IES office at 814 899-7643. Thank you!

Dear Iroquois School District Community, As previously communicated, the Iroquois School District believes that face-to-face instruction is better academically for our students. We also believe that students and adults are safe in school, as long as proper mitigation efforts are followed. More and more research supports this decision, and we will continue to offer in-person instruction as long as we can continue to do it safely. As you are aware, Iroquois Elementary School continued virtual instruction today due to a shortage of available substitutes to safely cover the building. At this time, Iroquois Elementary School will not be able to re-open for face-to-face instruction until Monday, January 4, 2021, due to a limited number of personnel available to staff in-person instructional needs. For the remainder of this week, December 15-18, 2020 and next week, December 21-23, 2020, students are expected to continue remote instruction by following the schedule provided by IES. As we continue to navigate the changes presented to us regarding in-person instruction, we will communicate our instructional plans to you as soon as possible. For questions regarding instructional expectations/needs at IES, please call (814) 899-7643 x2000. For questions regarding technology help, please call (814) 897-2416. For questions regarding COVID-19, please call (814) 899-7643 x6109. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Jennifer Foutz

Good afternoon IES faculty, staff and families! I wanted to thank you for your efforts this week to make these four days of virtual learning a success. I appreciate your communication with the school to help ensure students were able to continue learning and stay connected. At this time, IES will continue two more days of remote learning on Monday, 12/14 and Tuesday, 12/15. Students will need to log in for their LIVE instructional sessions and complete work assigned by their teachers. At this point, we plan to return to the building for in-person instruction on Wednesday, 12/16. Thank you again for your support of our school. We can't wait to greet our students when they return to the building. Have a great weekend and please stay safe!

Iroquois Community -
As you are aware, both Iroquois Jr./Sr. and Iroquois Elementary School switched to virtual instruction last week due to recommendations put into place by the Dept. of Ed in regards to COVID-19 positive/probable cases in schools. Iroquois SD believes that face-to-face instruction is better academically for our students. We also believe that students and adults are safe in school, as long as proper mitigation efforts are followed. More research supports this decision, and we will continue to offer in-person instruction as long as we can continue to do it safely.
On Mon., December 14, Iroquois Jr./Sr. High will be open and operate as scheduled. Iroquois Elementary School will not be able to re-open until Wed., December 16. Currently, IES is suffering from a shortage of subs to cover the building. We hope this problem is rectified early next week. If our efforts come up short, we will communicate our plans to you. Thank you for your continued support, and please stay safe.

A message from VLN for our ISD Cyber Families:
We understand how challenging the system performance issues we have experienced over the last week have been for the district and your cyber families and we sincerely apologize for the difficulties and frustrations they have caused. While we worked hard to anticipate and prepare for the impacts of a significant increase in enrollments in our programs due to the pandemic, we were unable to predict the effects certain aspects of this growth would have on our system. Over the last several days our Technology Team has worked tirelessly and we have taken significant steps to restore system performance, including the following actions:
• Increased server capacity – processing and memory
• Optimized core performance for main student interface during heavy workloads
• Separated application and file servers for increased performance and scalability
• Offloaded textbook downloading to a separate sever
Specific to the past 24 hours, we’ve added a second server to handle the higher volume of system service calls. This additional server appears to have greatly improved traffic flow to and from the database. Additionally, we’ve also offloaded the textbook downloading to a separate server to resolve slowdowns in the system created by this functionality and to prevent download timeouts. We’re continuing to monitor traffic and system performance in both of these areas and will respond quickly to make any additional adjustments that are needed. We intend to provide daily updates on the system status moving forward to keep you well informed.
As always thank you for your patience and support as we work to make this right for you, your students and your families.

ISD Cyber Families: We share in your frustration with the VLN technical difficulties. To accommodate our students, we are moving the due date for Modules 1 & 2 to Sunday September 27th at midnight. Work for module 3 will begin on Monday, September 28th. All due dates for future modules will now be Sunday nights at midnight. Thank you for providing us with feedback on your cyber experience.

It’s Iroquois School District Spirit Week!
We would love for you to participate!

Hello IES Cyber Academy Parents! Below is the latest information we have received from VLN regarding fixing the technological issues they have been experiencing the last few weeks. We will keep you updated regarding any additional information we receive from VLN. Thank you for your continued patience with the matter.
From VLN: Our Software Team has been working diligently throughout the weekend and we have made significant progress in restoring access and performance throughout the system for students. The team continues to work on a detailed review of our entire code and additional adjustments will be made as we find it necessary to improve the user experience. Students will notice that in an effort to further streamline the system, we have temporarily removed the Progress Indicator Gauge and Individual Status Indicators that appear below each course. These tools will be added back into the platform in the future. We apologize for the frustrations caused by last week’s system issues and we want to assure you that we are fully committed to providing a successful learning experience for your students and families.
